Oyster River HS special needs student/manager given her moment in the spotlight

Submitted by: Donna Coxen

Kate Messler, a 2010-2011 HS Senior for Oyster River HS (Durham, NH), has been a player/manager for the Varsity Girls Basketball team. Kate was always at every game cheering on her team, though she did not get to play. Kate, a special needs student, who has a developmental disorder, was called into a game to start the 2nd half, for the first time in her high school career. What she does is amazing and a true inspiration to us all, just watch for yourself! She sinks two 3-point shots, one at the buzzer! The Oyster River HS Girls Varsity Team demostrated what true sportmanship is all about. A life lesson was learned by so many young high school students that they will carry it with them through life. The videos will bring you to tears. It is an honor to have had Kate Messler at Oyster River High School.
