NOMINATE A COACH

The Liberty Mutual Responsible Coaching Awards celebrate and champion responsibility in youth sports. The goal of the Awards is to recognize that the men and women who volunteer their time to coach youth sports. Youth coaches are an integral part of the fabric of our communities and are key to instilling in our children the lessons learned from sports, both on and off the field.

The nomination period closes on February 28, 2009.

Steps for nominating a Responsible Coach

Step 1: Complete the Nominate a Coach form by entering as many details about your coach (nominee) as possible.

Step 2: To maximize the chances of your coach winning the Responsible Coaching Award, please provide us with a detailed explanation as to why you think this individual is deserving of the Award.

* The Responsible Coaching Award puts very little to no weight on win-loss records!

Step 3: Stay tuned to find out if your coach is a finalist for the Responsible Coaching Awards!

There are two Responsible Coaching Award periods annually, with nomination periods open during the summer and winter seasons. The winter nomination period closes on February 28, 2009. Winners will be announced in April.

Liberty Mutual will be awarding 50 total winners per season, one from each state from any sport. Awards winners will receive a $250 gift card, a personalized Responsible Coaching plaque, and recognition on ResponsibleSports.com, as well as on applicable partner websites.

Basic Criteria

The Responsible Coaching Award is awarded to youth sports coaches who have demonstrated the following:

  • An on-going commitment to the well-being and development of athletes off-the-field.
  • Achieves and maintains excellence on-the-field.
  • Exhibit a high level of coaching competence.
  • Honors and respects the Game
  • Learn more about what it means to be a Responsible Coach

Judging Criteria for Nominees

  • Nominee has not won the Responsible Coaching Award previously
  • Extracurricular activities (outside of sports) that demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of youth athletes off the field (for example: tutoring, community service, etc.)
  • Number of nominations and nominator essays
  • Coach questionnaire
  • Reference essays
  • Relationship of nominators and references to the coach

Judging Panel

Winners will be chosen by an independent judging panel consisting of parents, coaches, officials, and members of the sports community.

* Background checks will be performed for ALL finalists.

History

The Responsible Coaching Awards were established by Liberty Mutual's Responsible Sports program in the fall of 2007 to recognize that the men and women who volunteer their time to coach youth sports. We realize that these individuals are an integral part of the fabric of our communities and are key to instilling in our children the lessons learned from sports, both on and off the field.

In its second season (Summer 2008), Liberty Mutual again recognized youth sports coaches throughout the country. Winners received a $250 gift card to use for the benefit of their team or organization. In addition, all Award recipients received a personalized Responsible Sports trophy and recognition on ResponsibleSports.com and applicable partner websites.
